On my 8D Q1; 2/3 on F side, but used rarely and 2/3 or 2 on the B flat side. but this depends on the music and also whether I have set the third valve slide to be in tune when only the third valve is used alone, or whether the third valve slide is set to be in tune when second and third valves are used together. Q2; Generally from B to C on ascending scale passeges and G# to G on descending scale passages, but it also depends on the music especially if there are wide interval skips before or after the notes that are in the G to C area. On the Alex 103 which I use for chamber music I use the B flat side most of the time.
