Thanks Shane, Howard and Walter, This is, in fact, for a bassoon playing friend of mine. She is currently using earplugs but says that she has to remove and install them so often that it distracts her. It's entirely possible that her earplugs are not the best ones for the job, but they seem to annoy her more than anything else.
