Maybe you are accidentally using a "dual installation" of the mandriva
rpm AND the hplip package from the hplip side?

I had once a similar situation when I installed the suse hplip rpm and
the package from the hplip site, both at the same time.

To test for this, I would simply delete the mandriva rpm and then rerun
hp-check.

If it still works, you are then using your "one and only" hplip. ;-)

If this does not work properly then, I would delete "anything hplip"
from your computer and reinstall the latest package from the webpage,
just to
a.
begin from scratch and
b.
start wich a clean system
