I don't know what has gone wrong now.  I've tried twice, removing everything 
with the uninstall commands then re-installing from the run file.  Both times 
the UI hasn't registered in the menu, and both times 'service hplip status' 
tells me that it can't find hplip.

I'll do nothing more until you've had time to think about this.  Maybe it's 
time to try the .tar.gz, but I'll wait for your comments.
