If they make a difference in the dig, why don't they show up in
the search.  Does the specific keyword you're looking for in htsearch
actually exist in db.wordlist in all cases?  Does its weight change when
you change max_keywords?

Perhaps you should try a simpler test case.  Just dig one or two of the
documents with all the keywords, and nothing else.  Then, you'll get a
better handle on what changes when you change max_keywords.

The fact that db.wordlist increases in size suggests to me that the
keywords are being added.  Maybe what you think is the 6th meta keyword
isn't really the 6th.  Remember that meta keyword tags can take many
forms, especially if you've customised the keywords_meta_tag_names
attribute.
