The spinning ball of heaven is happening to me on el capitain with Hugin version 2014 so it is possible there are Mac bugs long lived that are not unique to this new build.
For reference to reproduce open Hugin and set interface to expert. Then select mask. Click crop. Click mask. Force quit cause it should have frozen. Again this with version 2014 downloaded from sourceforge.
