hi there, I just added myself to this list, as I'm in the market for a
better hardware sequencer. I thought I'd offer up what I'm looking for,
what I'm thinking of getting, and then hopefully getting some feedback
from some of you...?
the mainstay of my studio and live rig is my A3000 sampler. I've got 98Mb of
ram, so I can usually load a whole set at once. other midi things get used
live as well.
I really want something that I can write sequences on directly, with a step
sequencer as well as a real-time record function, but that I can also import
sequences easily as midi files from a computer based system. I want to be
able to do more when I play live than ride sequences, I want to be able to
change patterns, tempo, controllers, etc.
I've already got a Yamaha QY-70, which is ok, but kind of limited... I have
to thin out controller data heaps to get more than a couple of songs in
memory, and it's small. I was thinking about trading in the sampler for an
SU-700, but there's no envelopes on an SU-700... ;-( So now I'm tossing up
between an RM1x and a QY-700, and the RM1x seems cheaper and possibly
better. (i have thought about non-yamaha gear... ;-)
Any suggestions?
I'm willing to trade in the sampler if I can find a performance based device
that is still a good sampler in it's own right... but there just doesn't
seem to be anything around, so I thought a sequencer would be better.
