I have always favored the "clean shutdown" way of doing things which would imply an orderly shutdown of the PC including orderly termination of the console task.
I have found that it doesn't HAVE to be done that way as the termination of the emulator is similar to powering off the old hardware/coax terminals. You may need to vary the console device off/on and V CONSOLE to get it back however Ken -----Original Message----- Hal Merritt In the bad old days of consoles connected over bisync bailing wire circuits, one had to be careful to vary a console off line before disconnecting. We saw that again with the 2074 and Visera protocol converters, and the situation was worse because the PC's used for consoles tended to crash or the emulator closed by accident. The result was console buffers filling and causing management grumpiness. Now there are ICC consoles, and we have some experience that suggest that these consoles need not be varied offline before, say, rebooting the PC. Anyone care to comment as to whether the consoles need to be varied or can be simply left alone? Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
