I respectfully disagree.

When something is presented as a guideline or even perhaps a "rule of 
thumb", that is one thing.
When something is presented as a rule, that is a different thing.

If it is stated that "x is true" when it is not, that ought to be 
challenged.
I believe that that is where the examples fell.
