2. Key cannot be installed until the upgrade.

Why? If the product is designed properly, you should be able to specify more than one key. If the first key fails, the product tests the second key (and so on) until a working key is found. This allows you to install keys way ahead of time (e.g. long before cutting over to a new CPUID). SimpList allows up to 3 keys; a number of other MacKinney products allow up to 6.
