I looked at the source for Rich's TAPINFO, and it just seems to do a SENSE to get its info. Other info appears correct (i.e. LDPT/NLDPT, RING/NORING, etc.
Do you have a z/OS system around running FATS or FATAR? Those, being current and supported products, are likely to produce reliable results.
