Lately, I've been IPLing second level CP from a recomp CMS minidisk. So much easier to set-up. Still needs a CP formatted volume to run, but I find that I can DIRECTXA to that before booting second level. So in this case, the IPL vol (of the 2nd level system) is not CP owned, but yeah, the vol with the directory is CP owned.
I use the CMS formatted IPL disk as "MAINT CF0", update on it from 1st level, and then synchronize its contents to the CF1 and such 2nd when that gets brought up. -- R;
