I think it would be a timing problem mostly -- can the device deliver data in the expected time frame for IPL to look valid -- but I suspect there's going to be no real reliable answer across the board. If you can attach a device to a spare LPAR or a virtual machine and try it, I think that's your only way to get a real answer.
