i was speaking of stjarni and said this :)  our barn's mounting block is
a plastic thingy you step on on.  stjarni thinks this is insane.  he is
used to being mounted from the ground, and looks at the mounting block
as if to say, "she clearly wants to get on, but there's this THING in
the way...."

he used to sidle away, and i've talked him out of that, but he still
rolls his eye at the darn thing.
 
i mount from the ground quite comfortably, though i can only do so
bareback if i am a little uphill with stjarni -- six or eight inches
will do.  but i learned how on much smaller horses, and i'm very short.
