I seem to have become a neophyte of the highest order with OSX (10.1.5): 
I never had such trouble with 8.6 and quite frankly don't have as much 
with my pc at work.

i did manage to get my email back: user/library/email, but still have an 
empty address book!!

thanks for your advice

P.S., didn't wanna hose the system :-(
