Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the dangers of working in root mode. A subject I frequently warn about on this very list. As for how to get these items back, I can't be much help, but I offer these two suggestions: 1. You can try setting the privleges on these folders BACK to where they were. This may require you to log in as root again to undo the damage. 2. You can set up a new admin user, then "find" the specific files/folders you are looking for and copy them into the new account in the appropriate places. Again, you may have to log in as root in order to do this. 3. I would suggest you immediately seek help from a UNIX guru, preferably one familiar with OS X. I am not that person, but if you like I will be happy to forward your request to another list I am on that is full of such people. In the meantime, if you're not absolutely confident about getting the files back I would avoid logging in as root, and would try to just verify that the files are SOMEWHERE on your system (highly likely), just out of reach at the moment. _Chas_ Come to ...
