I did get Applecare for my iMac DV SE 2 1/2 years ago. Well worth it. Up
until this week I've only had to call support a couple of times but last
week the HD died. It was replaced by the local Apple Dealer under
Applecare.

The same question I asked the dealer after being saved this week! His
answer was no. It's only available for the initial period, probably for the
very reason you cite.

I have a question about restoring my iMac to it's previous condition but
I'll post another message with a different subject.
