I can attest that it did solve my problem too, as I stated in my original answer, so I was also a bit amazed by the response from Chas, as if he didn't read what had been posted or something.
A PEOF-problem is exactly what DiskWarrior is good at solving, as it looks at the original file to find out what is the end of the file, not at the directory entry. You may of course be out of luck that the file should be longer than it is, and that some important parts are missing, so there is no guarantee that it will work. IIRC, the original poster already had DiskWarrior, but just didn't want to spend the time trying to solve the problem using it, so there was no money to be spent or saved by not using it.
