Dunno why you say this, Chas, I think it's worth a try.

DiskWarrior is often recommended for the PEOF problem, and AFAIK, it often works to clear it up. Alsoft (on their website) has feedback from a customer who used DW for the PEOF problem.

Just to follow up on this, I attempted to remove the DFA PEOF error by going from OS 9 to OS 10 to run DW 3.0. Disk Warrior ran without any significant problems or unusual errors being noted. To make sure the PEOF error had really be taken care of,
however, I proceeded to change back to OS 9 so I could run DFA again.

That's when my little iMac went ka-plooey. OS 9 was just starting to boot up when I got
the dreaded flashing question mark!!

Nothing I could do would resurrect OS 9. Even using the install disk yielded nothing. It told me it was unable to find a disk to install on. I was a dead duck, so to speak.

Even reading my two iMac manuals yielding nothing useful, so I had to bring it in for repair, which BTW ended up wiping out everything in both OS 9 and OS 10. Luckily, I had nothing of major importance in the files, so replacement isn't a problem, just a bit of inconvenience.

My gut feeling is that I could have removed the PEOF error had I ran my old version of DW on OS 9, rather than going to OS 10 to run the newer 3.0 version. The technician who repaired it, disagreed. I'll never really know, I guess.

One thing I've gained from all this inconvenience (and expense). I am now concentrating my efforts in OS 10 and will use OS 9 as little as possible. It has been said many times on this list that Jaguar is far less likely to hang up than the OS 9 system. I'll find out as time goes on.

Thanks for listening. And if any of you can impart some additional wisdom for me to learn from this episode, I will be grateful.

Zippy
