>>So, why not AMD instead of Intel if is Apple is switching to x86 processors?

AMD is a smaller company, and sells pretty much just CPUs. Intel is much
larger, has tons more money, and has many many other chip sets. It isn't
just the CPU Apple is after, it is the Intel technology. And Intel has
the cash to do custom stuff for Apple (ie: special versions of chip sets
that enable an Apple branded Mac to be the only one that can run OS X).

>Jobs didn't say Intel exclusively.

No he didn't, but Intel has been pretty aggressive in the past with
companies that started offering AMD based machines. So I'd be pretty sure
that Intel made Apple sign some kind of an agreement locking them into
only Intel for the next few years.

But this is Jobs, and he doesn't like locking himself into anything, so
who knows. Maybe Apple didn't make any such agreement and can use AMD if
they wish.
