You could run OS 9 on OSX in classic mode. After installing OS X run through the install for OS 9 as if it were brand new, boot off the CD, etc. Then after installing with updates and all that jazz, boot into OS X (apple menu --> control panels --> start up disk --> choose OS X) then you can go into system preferences and classic and have classic either start up with OS X or only when u need to a run an old app. Otherwise you can always boot back into OS 9 anytime you need it.
