I would have to agree with that. I have a 400 MHz G3 iMac running 10.3.9
right now... and it can be PAINFULLY slow at times.

Let me clarify this a bit, I think.

The user experience, doing things in the GUI etc, feels slower to me under OS X, especially Finder operations.

BUT... Actual cranking away performance, especially complex math and such, *is* faster on OS X simply because 1) The OS' overhead is lower and 2) the math and other libraries are superior (better algorithms, better optimized) than OS 9's.
