When you say they're "still there again the next day", could you
elaborate? Are you logging out properly? Are you shutting down the
computer properly, or leaving it on? If a user isn't properly logged
out (say if the machine crashes), some settings don't get saved and
they revert back to the last time the machine was shutdown or the user
was logged out normally.
Daniel's suggestion to try macosxhints.com is a good one. I've solved
several issues by following tips found there.
Also, if you like the OS 9 style application menu, check out the Fruit
Menu haxie (Not sure about Tiger Support) at
http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/fruitmenu. But if you're a touch typist
like me, you may prefer one of my favorite apps for
launching/searching/switching applications known as Quicksilver and
found at http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/
