I have an Intel Imac, my USB ports seemed to "short out" long ago, I was told by using an old AFGA scanner 1212 which used the first USB version. What I have had to do for some time is every time I restart the computer, unplug all USB from the back of the computer, restart the computer, then plug the USB stuff back in again. I have been doing this for several years now - I was told to fix the USB problem would be expensive.
