I recently had problems with Firewire 400 not working on my G5 PowerMac (running Tiger and Leopard from separate internal discs), and after raising it on the G List here, was advised to try re-installing the combined updates .http://groups.google.com/group/g3-5-list/browse_thread/thread/ 814e78b77e681ab4 and this did in fact fix it, despite my initial scepticism, (although I just reinstalled Tiger from my DVD, and then upgraded that, since it was the install the machine came with, and I hadn't actually "moved in" any software, having been using my fresh Leopard install on its new HD). ....soooh could be the fix for your USB problem, since the ports do work after your un-plugged voodoo restart...and possibly for Marcelo's related problem?
