Hi,
I have found ssl to be a problem, and yes the newer versions of i-mail are
BUGGGGGGGYYYYYYY!!!!!
I have downloaded and played with KWM (Hey ron its GREEEEAAAAATT!!!!), Just
we are not ready to run this yet....obviously due to our setup, also
probably due to the fact that we have other projects on the way.....A TRUE
spiderring search enginge :)))
For the moment, Ideally I personally suggest a heft machine....pII 300 +
512M ram and as much fast SCSI hard drive space you can get in a box per +-
80 000 users for gateways......the rest can be handeled by dedicated load
balancing harware .... take a look at Cisco systems lb stuff.

To all,
>Anybody here running 100 to 400 simultaneous web mail users?? on what kind
of box? What kind of stability? SSL is available/user or not? Are my
back-of-the-envelope calculations in the ballpark in your experience?
We are running.
We have Dual Pentium III Xeon 500.
Using IMail 6.03, 6.04 has too many bugs...
We have about 300 users that use ONLY! web-mail from 08:00am -> 17:00pm
constantly.
About 110 of those 300 are using Imail without SSL and rest 200 users are
forced to use SSL all the time.
CPU usage is 30->100% peaks all the time. Jumping around...
We have huge problems with hanging. SSL seems to hang totally randomly. Once
per day, sometimes 5-6times per day and for awhile IMail runs smoothly for a
week or so without rebooting.
When SSL side is hanged up, inner port (8383, local intranet) works fine,
few times has occured that both sides are hanged up (non-secure/secure)
Only resolution for this problem is restart web-messaging service. But this
action put us in difficult situation, 'cause when stopping service, those
110 users that uses inner non-secure port will be dropped out from webmail
and they have to login again. Messages are lost etc...
We have concluded that SSL is the only problem here, 'cause when it hangs,
non-secure port works and restart service help. We will discontinue using
SSL in early 2001, because we are building Intranet and extranet that is
based on smart-id security cards and then SSL will no longer be required.
Not very nice situation, but we have learned to live with it.
IPSwitch has been unable to help... and KB also.

But when it comes to software... you'r screwed...
