I feel the need to weigh in on this one... even though we don't fall into
the afflicted category, perhaps my opinion would be of some use.

We have supported Ipswitch, and the IMail product, on and off this list for
over a year now. Often, I've been flamed by those who disagree with my
assertion that IMail is, dollar for dollar, an excellent value - better than
the MS bloatware. And despite those flames, I've continued to support IMail
nonetheless, because I like it, and because for us, it works very well.

Lately, though, I've been getting concerned. We, and every other hosting
company throughout the world, are having to deal with more and more SPAM as
each day goes by. There was a statistic that ran on Newsbytes today, about
how e-mailboxes will outnumber both telephones and televisions within a
couple of years. I can just visualize spammers salivating at that thought.

Memo to Ipswitch:

By ignoring your customers' pleas for better SPAM protection, you are
screwing the pooch, and ensuring that even your most loyal customers
eventually will defect to other products out of sheer frustration with you.

Just within this forum, I've seen request after request for three things to
be added to IMail, three key elements to help mail hosts protect their users
(and their servers) from the onslaught of SPAM:

1.) Reliable, dependable SMTP Authentication

2.) Ability to hook into the RBL for relay control

3.) Ability to control the timing and quantities of relayed mail

Now, I've been seeing these requests over, and over, and over again for at
least a year now, in one form or another. Ipswitch, do you not take SPAM
seriously? Do you not see the U.S. Congress - as well as various states -
moving to regulate the industry as a result of the SPAM epidemic? The rest
of us see it, and we're not willing to sit around and wait for solutions.

I thought about upgrading to version 6 of IMail, but without better SPAM
protection, what good would it be? What are the key features? SSL? Who
the hell cares about SSL?? My 1000+ users complain about SPAM, not SSL...
and propagating a 500K rules.ima file to each and every directory hardly
does an adequate job of protecting them.

I really get the feeling that you don't take the SPAM problem seriously.
Other NT mail servers support these features - why not IMail?

When users get spammed, the mail host gets blamed. When relay servers are
stolen and raped, the mail host gets blamed. And when you don't support
your users in their desperate attempts to secure their servers, even your
most loyal users will go elsewhere. We'll all talk about IMail as "that
great little NT mail server that just couldn't keep up with the times."

And you'll have no one to blame but yourselves.
