No I didn't back up the registry. I had a tape backup of the whole hard
drive - system folders included - based on the assumption that if there was
a crash everything would be restored. The problem is that after the restore
there is new and different hardware in the machine, and win2000 goes
directly to the blue screen of death because of the old device drivers. So I
had to go for a full install of the server and then restore bit by bit from
the latest full tape.
Is there anywhere on this tape that I might be able to pull something out of
the old registry, or is that mute unless I restore everything?
Thanks,
Tor

Did you back up the registry when you made those backups to tape?
You will need that for sure to get the usernames and passwords
back in there.
Other than that it sounds like a plan.
