My reading of this hack involves an instance where, in absence of a
firewall, the imail server has two addresses, one internal and one
external. If the first one is internal, the server can't route mail to
the external network. If you only have one address, whether it is
internal or external, you don't need to perform the registry hack. You
fixed a problem you didn't have, and broke something else. Have you got
IMail, thru the registry, pointing to an ip address which isn't actually
bound to any NIC in your server? That sounds like a problem! Your
problem isn't the screwed up domains, but the original one of sending
email which led to the registry hack. Of course, it's possible I'm being
thick and misunderstanding your setup...
We just installed a PIX firewall, changed the IP address on the mail
server to internal, created the conduits on the firewall to pass SMTP
and Web traffic through from the MX address to the internal one, and
voila, the mail goes through. One IP address on the mail server, and
it's internal. No registry hacks performed. How is your setup different,
besides the 3Com firewall, with which I am not familiar?
