Nope - just new names for the same old thing. I've been using the new
database NAMES in Declude for 3 days or so - and my report was based on the
"new" database. Dell, Optimum Online, Yahoo, Earthlink and the like are
still in the "new" Spam Source database. If THIS one is supposedly the most
"usable" - then it remains as worthless as before for anything but header
flagging.
>> Then maybe something in the subject ("ORBS:") or the first line of the
E-mail. <<
Well, for a while I added the subject ("SPAM:") to some of the DECLUDE
"hits" - and slowly but surely I had to revert back to header flagging. Too
many users kept complaining that there legitimate email from real customers
came in as SPAM - which supposedly confused their staffs. After trying to
explain myself for a while, I ultimate got the hint - the users pay the bill
and did NOT want THAT.
Right now, I only use the subject ("SPAM:") for MailFrom fails - with the
logic that if you can't reply - there is SOMETHING wrong. Even at THAT I
get false positives (caused by sporadic problems with a senders' DNS setup).
To me, the ultimate solution is to reject mail at the SMTP conversation -
this way it bounces back and will force the opposite side to answer
questions to THEIR users. May be this would trigger the reaction that ORBS
supposedly is really intended for.
