Page numbers? Well 39 is one, but pg 34 (Gateway), is better as it describes
the situation for most any 'relay' configuration and use of ETRN is just one
of them. Same basic techniques used for 'Backup Mail Servers', 'Store and
Forward', too. Best manual quote is from the bottom of pg 34:

If you are using any of the "Relay Mail for" options on the
SMTP Security tab, in order to relay outgoing mail from the
other mail server, the address of the other server must be added to
the addresses that you will relay for.

Not the best wording maybe, but it says 'if you want to Relay (S&F, ETRN,
etc...) for some other server, then you need to use 'Addresses' and enter
the remotes IP in the table.

and just above that (in the manual):
The IMail Server host must be able to resolve that domain name
to the IP address of the other SMTP server. This is accomplished
by making an entry for the domain name in the hosts file
(\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) on the IMail Server host.

Again I'll restate, anytime a 'Relay' (IMail processing email for domains
not in its 'configuration') is desired, its IP and hostname must be in the
HOSTS file. IMail uses the HOSTS file information (domain name and/or
machine name, that is why there may be multiple names for the same IP) and
IP in the 'Relay for Addresses table' to determine if it should allow the
incoming mail to be accepted and uses the same information to deliver it.

Not sure about how to answer your question about that manual quote. It looks
sorta OK to me. You have to remember in the context of the manual (back to
page 34 and what it said!). Although I can see where it might be less than
clear.

Maybe it should read "If you are using IMail's SMTP Security, 'Relay for
Addresses', to prevent spammers from using your computer as a spam relay,
add his server's IP address in the "[addresses]" dialog box in the Mail
Relay Options on the SMTP Security tab."
Better???
