When NT 4.0 was first released, the O'Reilly folks did an analysis of the
kernels, comparing workstation and server. Result - no difference. They
found differences in the registry - one of which, if my memory is accurate,
involved the 5 (10?) connection limit for file sharing. Seems to me that it
did involve a technical constraint. The article was taken down withing a few
days after a complaint that the "research" was an attempt to violate the
licensing agreement. Tickle anyone's memory?

lots of people were checking their mail via the web simultaneously.

is extremely unclear what this applies to (some people will say it is just
print/file sharing, others say just Microsoft Internet services, others say
all TCP/IP and similar activity, etc.). It's up to you to determine if the
licensing meets your needs. Microsoft does not impose a technical limit.
