I have had something similar happen on an NT4 box once or twice where it just would not let me delete files and so on even though I was logged in as Administrator with full permissions.
I solved my problem by rebooting the server. I think it may have happened 2 or 3 times in 3 or 4 years. You've probably tried that but thought I'd offer anyway.
