There may be app-specific  issues, but there is no blanket restriction on 16
bit apps.

After re-reading the original message I doubt any of those apps were 16 bit to
begin with.  Most Win apps run fine under 2K, but most is not all - some
homework is required.   Virtually all apps released with the past two years
are OK.

I don't believe in upgrading just to run the latest and greatest.  If a box is
serving you well, keep it at NT4.  But for any new boxes, W2K is the preferred
choice.  As long as the software to be run is under 2.5 yrs old or so, there
shouldn't be any problems.  NT4 has seen it's last service pack and is
effectively in critical-fix only maintenance.
