That's bad; it violates the RFCs, will get you listed in 
http://www.rfc-ignorant.org, and will prevent you from getting bounce messages

That's because "SMTP" is outgoing mail ("SMTPD" is the SMTP Daemon, for 
incoming mail).  That just means that IMail is sending out a bounce 
message.  It's a good thing the remote mailserver accepts mail from "<>", 
since you send mail from "<>"!  :)
