OK -- that could be the cause of the problem, even if mailboxes are limited
in size. If there is a large volume of traffic (lots of people on mailing
lists, for example), that could make the problem worse.

Perhaps.
Normally, I would recommend that you continue using IMail AntiVirus, and
not use a separate product to protect the mailserver. If you are not
running other services (such as web or ftp), it should be extremely
difficult for a virus to infect the server if you are reasonably careful
(for example, by not installing a mail client on there, or testing new
programs).
If you do have other services, or may not be as careful as you could be
(for example, several other people have access to the mailserver), it may
be worth it to install a standard AV program (and have it exclude the
spool/mailbox directories). There will be a slight performance hit for
adding the mailserver AV protection.
