yes, we're trying to fix that

tell nslookup explicitly to use one of those DNS ip'a above.

When I query the two DNS ip's you gave me above, they have the right
information in their cache:

note that techie.com's MX hostname's have 4 A records each, but it's the
same set of ip's. (confirming my experience that outblaze.com has serious
capacity and it's seriously abused).

If you can't read the plain english in the dig output, I can do nslookup, too:

# nslookup -type=mx techie.com 64.63.161.11
Server: flower1.mobilenetics.com

So I conclude, by dig and nslookup, that the NS's you "say" Imail is using
both currently have cached the correct data for techie.com MX's and their A
records.

>That's it. What I looked for was another example of where I do an A record
>look up and get the same result of just the name bouncing back at me.

nslookup really, really sucks.

Get the BIND tools pkg for Win32 here and use dig:

ftp://ftp.isc.org/isc/bind/contrib/ntbind-8.3.3/BIND8.3.3Tools.zip

> I just
>registered with mail.com the e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] which also does not
>return an IP when I do a nslookup on it.

well, f@ck nslookup.

As I say in my DNS classes for Men & Mice (where I actually go off-menu and
present my own slides about DNS + mail), every mail admin really needs to
be able to work with DNS. Knowing how to spell DNS isn't going to hack
it. And DNS admins need to understand how SMTP uses DNS.

So, and I'm just repeating what Scott has found, the DNS's your Imail is
supposed to be using have correct data cached for techie.com. It's a very
short path from Imail to those NS's. I suspect your problem is in the
IMail machine, its tcp/ip stack, its DNS resolver, or connectivity between
your Imail machine and its DNS's. Since Imail can send via the hosts file
resolution, Imail has correct connectivity to the destination MTA.

Imail weirdness has sometimes been linked to NIC cards and/or their drivers.
