This was discussed to some extant on this forum a while back.

One way of hardening a server that is behind a firewall, (like Sandy
said, no server should be in front of a firewall,) is in the TCP/IP
settings of the NIC on the server. You can configure to only allow what
ports you configure to have access in and out.

However, this is an advanced configuration and could easily break
necessary communications if not done right.
