I have
had this issue when switching from dialup to lan before. The solution was
this (on Windows 98 & NT). Go into the properties for Network Neighborhood
and delete the "Dial-up adapter". Reboot.
In NT 4.0
there is no dial up adapter in Network Neighborhood
????
