Looking at this again, I think that I wrote at least(!) one indecipherable sentence:

Unfortunately, mindbogglingly, the active list directory is unchanged after this procedure - that is to say, I can change subscribers by poking a users.lst & .txt file into the \imail\lists directory on the server's drive, but the list directories on the network drive appear to be ignored.
What I think might be confusing here is my use of the term "server."

My system is made up of multiple rack-mounted servers, which run Win2K Server for their operating system. But their own hard drives aren't shared with any workstation or each other; the Imail domain directory is - or at least I want it to be - on a NAS unit, a shared box of hard disk storage connected via the network to the servers.

I hope no one was confused in the first place, or that I've cleared up what confusion there might have been.
