OK guys and gals, here's the workaround..... M$ O/E obviously does NOT support longer account ID's as in my particular case.
Created users with just the initials, thus shortening the ID string, purely for sending mail with authentication and guess what???? Now I have to convince the users that they need to configure their outbound settings to match the shortened version of their ID's, shouldn't be a problme though 'cos they're dying to get these messages sent by any means. OK, it's "tatty" but it works and if it's for only 2 users out of 500 - what the hell!! Well bugger me!!!
