I used dnsreport.com to generate report on the domain, and while most passed,
there were a few failures, including lack of MX record in the two
non-authoritative ns listed in my router.
The DNS Report doesn't check for MX records for your nameservers -- it only checks for MX records for the zone that you are running the report on. So if you run a DNS report on "example.com", it won't check to see if ns1.example.com has any MX records. If you ran the DNS report on "ns1.example.com", it would check -- but you shouldn't run the DNS report on a hostname.

The logs show, for the mail being delivered to our users,
'NOTIFY=FAILURE,DELAY'.
That's actually not the information we need -- that just shows that there is a "RCPT TO:" line, which means that the remote mailserver *did* connect to your server (although lots of people get scared by the "NOTIFY=FAILURE,DELAY", which just means that the sender requested the return receipts, and does not indicate that a failure or delay occurred). What is important is the lines after that, that show whether or not IMail received it, and whether or not IMail delivered it.

Sometimes there was an entry for 'ldeliver...' but
most often not. I did up the number of attempts and time frame for delivery
attempts, but I've not noticed any difference.
For local mail, the number of attempts shouldn't matter.

If you post a full log snippet for one of the E-mails that wasn't received, that may be helpful.
