You have to understand that PacBell is owned by SBC. They also now own
Yahoo and have just recently integrated all of their and Yahoo's e-mail
servers into a "single integrated system". They are notorious for poor
e-mail service.

SBC / Yahoo / PacBell / Ameritech has a bunch of e-mail servers scattered
all over the country in their territory that handle the e-mail for each
other when one of them goes down - which, like their DNS servers, is almost
daily. When one of their e-mail servers is not available, the e-mail is all
sent to a hold on another server. Once the subscriber's designated e-mail
server comes back up, it can take up to a week for the e-mail that has been
held on the alternative server to find its way back to the regular e-mail
server used by the client and, ultimately, into the client's e-mail account.

I had several clients in the Chicago, Milwaukee and Springfield (IL) areas
that we finally moved completely off of SBC / Ameritech and got them an
alternative DSL provider. We then took over the hosting of their e-mail
service and they have not had a problem since then.

In this case, there's nothing you can do except hold the client's hand and
convince them to get another service provider.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Intermittent problems receiving messages from his
PacBell.net

One of my users has had intermittent difficulty sending himself email from a
pacbell.net account. He has also had trouble sending me e-mail from the
same account. I've checked the DNS settings and the MX records for his
domain (webcastro.com) and they pass muster just fine. I've white listed
his PacBell account to make sure Declude junkmail is not inadvertently
holding his mail, and I've sent multiple test messages to the account from
hotmail and other non-iMail post offices and all get through without a
problem. I've also noticed that he gets well over a hundred messages a day
(mostly spam) steadily throughout the day. Yet he still has intermittent
problems receiving messages from his PacBell.net account. He has gotten one
rejection message from PacBell indicating it could not deliver the message
within a day and has returned it. I'm including this message below (which
he was finally able to successfully send me from his PacBell account). I'm
somewhat at a loss as to what the problem might be and would appreciate any
and all suggestions as to what I might look for or do to resolve this issue.

Thanks!

Wolf
