We use these from APC:
http://www.apcc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP9312TH&language=en&LOCAL.APCCountryCode=US

Although you can get them for about $100 less than the price on their
website. This unit monitors both temp and humidity and is SNMP manageable. I
am still trying to get it to work properly with WhatsUp Gold though...

We use a monitored alarm system we installed but pay to have an outside
alarm company monitor (Orca?). We have heat and fire sensors as well as
regular motion and door sensors.

Len's recent post talked about the AC units. We do use a wall mount unit,
but we actually had problems with the unit freezing up if we left it
recalculating. We pull in fresh air from the outside and it mixes with the
in-room air. It is VERY important to keep the air filters clean. In our
computer room we have an 18,000 BTU unit (from Sears no less!) and a 250cfm
wall fan on a temp backup (it turns on if the room temp hits about 80deg f).

We have 3 floor to ceiling racks full of equipment. This room stays about
68-70 degrees all the time. The top half of one rack is all 3Com HiPer
modems and the bottom half is all APC units. This section is closest to the
AC as it generate the most heat. The room is 5'x10' and the AC blows the
length of the room making it's own circulation work quite well.

All of our rack mounted stuff has vents on the sides and or front/backs. We
do our best to make sure nothing needs circulation from the top or bottom as
this wastes rack space.

At our office, we have 1 relay rack with some PC's and an APC unit in it.
This is also our storeroom and we have the of the NetAir units from APC
vented out through the roof. This works very well in this room. I am adding
a second rack this week for adding more equipment. It will be interesting to
see if the APC NetAir keeps up. This room has no outside walls...
