Thanks to Ben and all those who replied so promptly. I think the mists have cleared and I understand now where the problem lays...RR have obviously bothered to separate their Business and Residential IP ranges whereas good old BT have not. I also have now realised why my original MX and A record changes were all completed as requested and the the PTR was not.
I will approach BT and see if they will relay outgoing mail from our server, without the need to change our domain address information.
