1.. When I configure relay just for my customer's IP addresses, any
customer coming from a different IP address has to use to use SMTP
authentication to send outgoing mail through my IMail server.

Correct.

2.. In order to use SMTP authentication, the "disable AUTH reporting"
option needs to be unchecked

Correct (technically, checking that option still allows SMTP AUTH, but only if the mail client ignores what IMail tells it).

3.. In scenario where I have an Email Gateway such as Imgate, Postini, or
a Server running Imail and Declude, The protected Imail server needs to
communicate through SMTP only with the Email Gateway and with my email
customers. In other words, I need to set in Imail under SMTP security tab an
Access Lists that grants access only to the Email Gateway and my customers'
IP Addresses.

Correct. However, note that the gateway server will also need to be set up properly to prevent relaying.

4.. Any denied access through an SMTP access list will not show up in the
logs. It seems that this filtering process happens preceding the SMTP
session.

I don't know for sure on this, but I expect that's the case.
