Our mail server received about 18,000 emails the last two days. Our mail server is not
an open relay and our users must use SMTP auth. I am concerned about what the 18k
emails are? I surmise that it they could be one of two things:

1. A client using SMTP auth to send thousands of emails thru our servers

or

2. Simply a lot of spam.

What is the best way to tell? I examined the logs and looked at log analysis reports.

  Protocol Messages
1 SMTPD 17,336

2 SMTP 1,401

   Total 18,737

Thanks for any insight.

John
