For the most part, I trust the folks on my side of the router to not deliberatly run their own smtp server and spam.
What I don't trust them for is to know when their computer is infected with a virus that has an internal smtp service, and they are spewing out infections via port 25. I implemented my blocking when Sobig.F was released. As for the tech support complaints, the only ones that would complain are the ones that are running their own smtp servers behind their dialup connection which suddenly stop working when you install the block, (I had two call and complain) and that gives me an opportunity to ask them why they are doing this in the first place. The response was 'um, ah, err, gee, I'll get back to you' (likely spammer) or 'I don't know, I thought I had to to use my domain address'. -Alan > >if you trust the people on your side of the router you don't *have* to >do this, it just makes it less likely you'll have a problem, but may make >some of your customers annoy the hell out of you with tech support issues. >-dd This is the discussion list for the IMS Free email server software.
