The Community can't do that, you know it. Only Sun can. So it can't be a
project controlled by the Community, since Sun could choose, at any
moment, to remove its trademark.
I do think Ian has the best interests of the community at heart.
Sun is nice enough to have dedicated him, plus bits of a few other
people's time, to enhancing the offerings of the opensolaris community.
If it were really a Sun project, I would have expected Ian to be a bit
more of a bully than he has been - he's actually been VERY nice thus far,
and I think we should be considerate rather than attacking him out of the
blue.
I am finding much of this discussion highly counterproductive, in that
people who feel they have a "stake" are hammering on each other endlessly.
Discussion of past legal wrangling and rulemaking is not productive
either. It just isn't constructive.
I would like to see the list settle on a name for Project Indiana's
product that doesn't infringe on anyone's trademarked names, and that
doesn't leave the community beholden to any person or group.
It would be pretty cool to see that happen today.
And then we can move on.... yes?
