Hi Petr, Thanks for the reply. You have very valid points. I believe we all agree that the key issue is not x vs y, but what should receive the "preferred" treatment of going into the LiveCD. As such, IMO, the issue involves not a technical, but a market analysis: Who are our target customers? How many potential users will we expect to gain vs. how many we will lose if a certain feature is included in lieu of another? Will this loss be remediable (i.e., which group is more likely to install the LiveCD and add the missing feature)? I know I am not qualified to answer these questions, but just feel obligated to report the mountain of hindrance that I (and a few others too) have run into when trying to promote OpenSolaris in China, and offer the most likely reason behind it. If the only goal of the OpenSolaris LiveCD is to provide an easily installable media, then there is no issue. Under the newly improved GUI Package Installer, it is very easy to install the SCIM packages. Just do a search for "SCIM" and check the appropriate boxes. At the present time, the user still needs to modify the .profile file in $HOME and the Xsession file in /etc/... . But this should not be a seriously deterring factor. The key question is, do we honestly expect many new users to install the LiveCD on their HD? Answer to this question can also vary greatly geographically. Recent exciting developments in Sun's VirtualBox should make this more likely to happen, but it is a big unknown. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ indiana-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss
